Empowering Students to Achieve Academic Excellence

Your Student Has More Points Than They're Showing.

Toback Tutoring uses data-driven error tracking to find exactly where scores are slipping and build a plan to get them back. SAT prep and math tutoring for Triangle-area students

No pressure. Just 15 minutes to see if we're the right fit.

Pencil On Math Sheet

Most Tutoring Doesn't Work. Here's Why.

Generic prep programs teach every student the same content in the same order. But your student isn't losing points everywhere. They're losing them in specific, repeatable patterns that a generic curriculum never addresses.

A student missing questions because of careless errors needs a completely different intervention than one with conceptual gaps. Most tutors can't tell the difference. Toback Tutoring can, because we track it.

The Toback Tutoring System

Every student goes through the same four-step process.

Diagnostic: We start with a full practice test and build an error log across seven categories: Conceptual Gap, Careless Error, Misread Question, Time Pressure, Weak Vocabulary, Formula Error, and Trap Answer.

Prioritization: Your error data tells us exactly where your points are. We rank categories by frequency and impact, then sequence sessions around your highest-leverage gaps first.

Targeted Sessions: Every session has a purpose. We are not reviewing what your student already knows. We are attacking the specific patterns that are costing them points.

Track and Adjust: We monitor progress across every category over time. If a new pattern emerges, the plan adapts. Nothing is set and forget.

Offered at no cost to local schools, churches, nonprofits, and youth organizations. Because every young person in this community deserves to understand money.

Most people were never taught how money actually works. Not in school, not at home, and not in a way that made it feel real or achievable. If your organization serves young people or adults who are ready to change that, I offer complimentary financial literacy workshops for schools, nonprofits, churches, and community groups across the Triangle. No cost. No catch. Just the fundamentals that build financial confidence and long term freedom. Reach out and let's talk about bringing a workshop to your community.

Who Is Teaching your Student

My name is Sophia Toback

I'm Sophia Toback, a Georgetown University graduate with a degree in Economics, based in Chapel Hill. Although I've graduated, I remain deeply connected to the Hoya community through the alumni associations and relationships that have continued to shape my life and career.

At Georgetown, I competed as a coxswain on the rowing team, an experience that taught me invaluable lessons about leadership, performing under pressure, and showing up every day for the people who depend on you.

I'm a runner, swimmer, and avid reader with a particular interest in finance, economics, and behavioral psychology. Numbers have always felt like a language to me, while movement has always been what keeps me grounded.

Professionally, I work in commercial real estate in Raleigh as a Tenant Representative at Newmark. I help businesses find, evaluate, and negotiate office and commercial spaces that fit their needs, budget, and long-term goals. My work involves analyzing the market, understanding financial considerations, and helping clients make informed decisions about where and how they operate.

Beyond my career, I'm passionate about education. I tutor students in SAT preparation, AP Statistics, AP Economics, and mathematics, and I provide free financial literacy workshops for schools, churches, nonprofits, and community organizations throughout the Triangle.

Every athlete knows that game day doesn't start when the whistle blows. It starts weeks earlier, in the film room, on the practice field, in the moments nobody sees. The SAT, AP Statistics, and AP Economics are no different. The test is just game day. My job is to make sure your student is so prepared that walking into that room feels like a home game.

I specialize in four areas: SAT prep, AP Statistics, AP Economics, and Math. Not because I couldn't teach other subjects, but because focus wins. The best coaches don't spread themselves across every sport. They go deep on one thing and they build champions there.

Sports psychology teaches us that elite performers don't just train their skills. They train their minds. They learn to manage pressure, eliminate mental errors, and execute under fatigue. That's exactly what I build into every student's preparation. We don't just practice problems. We study error patterns, identify the mental mistakes that show up under time pressure, and build the kind of confidence that holds when it counts.

Most students who struggle on test day aren't underprepared in terms of content. They're underprepared mentally. They freeze on trap answers. They rush when the clock gets short. They second-guess themselves out of questions they actually know. Those are coachable. Every single one of them.

I built my seven-category error tracking system because great coaches don't guess. They study tape. When I review a student's practice test, I'm not just marking right and wrong. I'm identifying whether the miss came from a conceptual gap, a careless error, time pressure, a misread question, or a trap answer. Each one has a different fix. And knowing the difference is what separates a tutor from a coach.

I keep my roster small, intentionally. Because serious athletes deserve serious attention. If you're looking for a program where your student is one of fifty names on a list, there are plenty of those. If you want a coach who knows their tendencies, tracks their progress, and shows up every session ready to make them better, that's what Toback Tutoring is built for.

The score your student wants is achievable, but it requires the right training plan, the right coaching, and a student who's willing to put in the work. If that's your family, I'd love to talk.

Great Coaches Don't Guess. They Study the Film.

Our Unique Approach

Alongside my tutoring work, I coach high school and college students through college admissions interviews, internship recruiting, and early-career job interviews. My approach combines the communication skills needed for a strong interview with practical insight into the industries students are hoping to enter.

For college applicants, I help students prepare for interviews by identifying the experiences, interests, and values that make them distinctive—and teaching them how to communicate those stories naturally rather than relying on rehearsed answers. We work through common questions, mock interviews, follow-up questions, and the types of conversations students may encounter at selective universities.

For older students, I specialize in preparing candidates interested in finance, private equity and real estate private equity, investment banking, and commercial real estate. This includes behavioral interview preparation, “tell me about yourself” pitches, resume-driven questions, industry and market discussions, and mock interviews designed to replicate the pressure of an actual recruiting process.

My goal is not simply to give students a script. I teach them how to think on their feet, speak confidently about their experiences, understand the industry they are pursuing, and present themselves as thoughtful and capable young professionals.
